Hooded Pitohui - A Poisonous Bird

Hooded Pitohui (Pitohui dichrous) can be found in New Guinea. This species were the first documented poisonous birds. The poison founds in the birds' skin and feathers, which can cause numbness and tingling in those touching the birds. They acquire its poison from part of its food, the Choresine beetles. These beetles' poisons are also a likely source of the poisons found in Colombia's poison dart frogs.
These birds have a bright orange and black feather which it’s a warned to predators that they are poisonous. It’s believed that Hooded Pitohuis rub their poison to their eggs and chicks to protect from predators.
