Changing Your Cat's Food

If you plan to change the food your are serving your cat, it's usually best for your cat's health to change food gradually.

Gradually changing your cat's food will make it easier on your cat's digestive system and will allow her to get accustomed to the new taste.

Dry Food or Wet Food--Which is Best?

Cat food comes in both dry (kibble) and wet food. If you buy a premium food, both should be nutritionally equal. The decision about whether to serve your cat dry or wet food should depend on your cat's preference and your schedule.

Although it's always important to have fresh water available for your cat, this is even more important if your cat eats dry food.

Be sure to always use a clean bowl for your cat's food and water.

Your cat does not need milk.

Symptoms that something is wrong with your cat or kitten include loss of appetite, a dull coat, excessive grooming or itching, not grooming after eating, lethargy, hiding in unusual places (places your cat normally doesn't hide), vomiting, diarrhea, appearance of the third eyelid extending from the corner of your cat's eyes while awake, difficulty using the cat litter box (from either end) or using another location for elimination when your cat usually uses her litter pan, excessive drooling, drinking lots and lots of water or any other behavior that seems unusual for your cat. http://aolpsycho.disqus.com/aol_user_no_5066640_kylottery_25/

If you start grooming your cat from the time she is a kitten, both you and your cat will have a more pleasant experience with the process. Not only do cat grooming techniques help keep your cat healthy and happy and keep her from developing hairballs, they also provide a way for you and your kitten or cat to bond. The kitten or cat's mom did this starting the day she was born, so this ritual helps your kitten to feel bonded to you.

Another benefit of regularly grooming your cat (especially brushing your cat) is that it gives you an opportunity to do a general check up on your cat. You can check on the condition of his coat, his skin, his ears, etc. And you can feel for any unusual bumps or lumps.
